Microsoft’s Surface Pro tablet is to be released this February 9. Pretty exciting right? But you have yet to know this: It will only have less than 50% of usable storage. The 64GB edition of Surface Pro will have 23GB of free storage out of the box while the 128GB version will have 83GB available. The consumed space conisists of the Windows 8 install, built-in apps, and a recovery partition.
Microsoft counters the allegation saying that users will be able to free up additional storage space by “creating a backup bootable USB and deleting the recovery partition,” but out of the box they’ll be left with as little as 36 percent of the advertised storage available. This is also the same issue with the Surface RT tablet which consumes half of the total space available.
This is a major letdown.
